Family Fun at the Cumming Fair
If this picture of John Davis doesn’t perfectly sum up how much fun we had at the Cumming Fair then I don’t know what does!
We are lucky enough to have the Cumming Fair right in our very own backyard and we took full advantage of it this year.
We took John Davis and Fletcher for the first time last year, but to be honest it was a total disaster. (It was hot, John Davis was too small to ride anything – but he wanted to ride everything – cue the meltdowns, Fletcher was a nursing infant, yeah.. you know how it goes if you’re a Mama!)
But this year? Completely magical!!
Truly. There is already something about the fair that is reminiscent of the good ole days. The sounds, the sights, the colors, the smells, the food. Good ole fashion family fun that I imagine hasn’t changed all too much over the years.
But seeing the pure JOY on this child’s face made it more magical than I could have ever imagined. There is something about seeing the world through a child’s eyes that just can’t be adequately put into words.
We drive by the fairgrounds regularly and John Davis had watched the fair being set up for the last couple of weeks.
When I told him we were going that is ALL he talked about all day! He kept saying, “I want to go to the fair and ride the rides!” I don’t even know where he got that from!
Fletcherman was pretty excited about it too 😉
He was mesmerized by the sights and sounds and kept pointing at everything with that little finger 🙂
Of course I woke up that morning and decided the babies needed matching Fair shirts so I whipped out the embroidery machine : ) This design from JoyKateDesigns turned out so cute!
Fletcher loves animals (stuffed animals included), so he was thrilled when he found an entire wall of stuffed animal prizes.
It’s so sweet how he goes up and loves and hugs and kisses on all of them. I think he thinks they are real!
Fletcher calls all animals puppy dogs (and more recently kitty cats). But he can’t say “puppy dogs” so it comes out as “daddy dogs.”
It’s the sweetest and funniest thing ever and I hope I never forget his little voice saying “daddy dog!”
And yes, if you are wondering, now our entire family calls dogs “daddy dogs” 🙂
Getting a family picture is near impossible these days but we managed to get the babies to stop long enough to snap a pretty good one!
If you’re wondering if we rode the Ferris wheel… heck no! This Mama does not get on Fair rides 🙂
Attempting to get a picture of John Davis and Fletcher together. That’s near impossible so we’re going to call this one a win!
The picture of the babies below makes me laugh because it is a good representation of their two personalities.
John Davis: studious, taking it all in.
Fletcher: “I’m here for the party.”
And if I could sum up Fletcher in one photo this would be it. This child is. a. mess.
Aren’t Mother and Daddy cute? Daddy was more excited for the Fair than the babies 🙂
John Davis said he wanted to “ride all the rides” and that’s exactly what he did!
Watching the pure joy on his face was something I don’t think I will ever forget. I’ve never seen him have so much fun.
He told me his pony’s name was “Nemo.” : )
And this fish ride that was actually Nemo? Well, he told me it was a “bumblebee.”
When the ride ended he would jump off, run over to us and say, “Next one!”
We let him ride and ride and ended up staying out way past bedtime.
But the fun he had and the memories we made were more than worth it.
I can’t help but smile just seeing the joy on his face.
We finally told him we had to go home… but he saw the swings on his way out and just had to ride them. Of course we’re total suckers and said, “okay” : )
Fletcher wanted to ride too.
Granddaddy got to ride the swings and go on his first little roller coaster with John Davis 🙂 I love how much they love each other.
Not going to lie, it made me a nervous wreck to see my three year old flying through the air on the swings. At the end of the night I asked John Davis what was his favorite ride. His answer? “The swings!!” Of course.
We couldn’t let the night go by without trying an infamous fried Oreo.
John Davis approved! : )
Well, that’s a wrap on the 2019 Cumming Fair. You were even more fun than I could have imagined. Until next year!

you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalm 16:11
