John Davis’s Newborn Photo Session with Paperlily Photography
I spent more time than I would care to admit scouring the website of every newborn photographer in the Atlanta area. I knew in my mind exactly what I wanted for newborn pictures: I envisioned natural, timeless, raw photos that would perfectly capture every detail of our newborn baby as well as our love and joy during such a special time.
Finding what I envisioned was harder than I thought it would be. Not to knock the photos of newborn babies wearing cute props such as hats while sleeping soundly in baskets, it just wasn’t what I envisioned in my mind.
A newborn baby is so pure, so fresh from heaven. And that is what I wanted the focus of our newborn pictures to be. I didn’t want anything to take away from the focus on our sweet baby.
When I stumbled upon the website for Paperlily Photography I knew immediately that I had found exactly what I was looking for.
Brooke was even more of a dream to work with in real life. She came to our house when John Davis was just over a week old and she instantly had such a comfortable presence. She is very laid back and down to earth.
As a first time mom I was worried how a lifestyle newborn session would work out logistically. At just a week in we were still trying to figure out sleeping and breastfeeding, and I wasn’t sure how cooperative John Davis might be.
I am also not one who is very comfortable in front of the camera. But Brooke made me feel completely at ease.
Funny (well, funny now) backstory: at this point Hubby was already back at the law firm working like crazy to try and catch up on his billable hours. He was going to come home when Brooke needed him for the family photos. That way he would miss as little office time as possible. My mom had been staying with us since John Davis was born so I really had not been left alone just me and my newborn baby up until this point.
Right after Brooke arrived at our house my mom got a call from my dad. He had been working on a project at home when a glass shower door fell on his head. He couldn’t get the bleeding to stop so he was heading to the Emergency Room to get stitches and to get his head checked out. Of course I told my mom to leave and go meet him.
My dad got a few stitches and was just fine. Aside from worrying about my Dad, I would be lying if I said a little bit of panic didn’t set in when my mom had to leave and I was left alone with my newborn baby and a photographer in my home.
But Brooke was absolutely amazing and might as well be called a baby whisperer. Go figure our very alert little guy was bound and determined to stay awake and look around to see what all was going on. Brooke, who is a mom herself, was so patient and spent so much time working with John Davis to help soothe him to sleep.
Brooke spent around four hours at our house and not once did I feel rushed or uncomfortable.
There were of course multiple stops for feedings and diaper changes but Brooke took advantage of that time by photographing every little detail of the nursery (which I can’t wait to share!).
I could not be happier with the final results.
They are truly more beautiful than I ever could have ever imagined.
She so perfectly captured our joy as first time parents and our love for our precious baby boy.
I can’t get over how well she captured every single little newborn detail.
His little face, his profile, his hands, his feet, his fuzzy hair (what tiny amount he has), and even a few smiles. I even love the pictures with his eyes wide open and looking around because that’s already his personality: he doesn’t miss a thing!
I love them all so much it was hard to narrow them down to just a few to share.
The newborn stage goes by entirely too fast and I am so thankful I will have these to look back on to remember some of the happiest days of our lives.
Thank you Paperlily Photography.
We will cherish them forever.
