John Davis’ First Day of School + Back to School Breakfast Table

It’s become a fun little tradition to decorate the boys’ table for holidays and special occasions (see here and here). I love creating these special memories for them the same way my own mama did for us.

John Davis gets so excited to come downstairs in the morning and see the “birthday party table.”

If he sees any decorations he automatically thinks we’re having a birthday party. I guess that means he already recognizes that his Mama is an over zealous party planner. 😉

This took me about ten minutes to put together the night before school started and everything you see on the table is from either the Target Dollar Spot or the DollarTree. And most everything is re-used from last year!

The “First Day of School” chalkboard apple was from the Target Dollar Spot last year. I love the idea of taking “First Day of School” pictures with the same sign every year.

This one and this one are both adorable, inexpensive and Prime eligible on Amazon. Be sure to add in my favorite chalk pen.

No surprise here that John Davis still wants to be a truck driver when he grows up 🙂 That boy loves trucks.

The “placemats” are actually dry erase boards from the DollarTree. I picked them up last year and thought they were just so cute! I was glad to see they have them in stock again this year.

I keep a stash of paper plates and these red plates were left over from last year. I cut a “stem” and a “leaf” from brown and green cardstock and glued them onto the plate to make it an apple. Yep, I’m extra 🙂

The red and white wood spoons were also in my party stash. They came from HomeGoods and I bought them last year for the Fourth of July.

I’m not sure why milk looks so much cuter in these glass dairy bottles, but it just does! Add a red and white paper straw and you are set.

This little felt ABC banner was a new purchase this year that I scooped up from the Target Dollar spot. I thought it was too cute to turn down!

I also picked up these paper apples that came in a pack of 25. I taped them onto white ribbon to make a cute little banner.

I love that they match our apple-themed gift basket and free printable gift tag for the first day of school!

John Davis was so excited to come downstairs and see his “First Day of School” breakfast table all set up and waiting on him.

He thinks it’s so fun to drink milk out of a glass with a straw instead of his usual spill-proof cup: )

Daddy even joined him for a few minutes before heading off to work.

I just love this sweet picture of the two of them. That’s a good Daddy right there!

John Davis got dressed and ready to go in his brand new first day of school outfit. I always loved picking out a new first day of school outfit when I was growing up!

He picked out new red converse shoes for himself and I was secretly so glad he chose red 🙂

His blue gingham shorts are from Blanks Boutique and his shirt is one that I embroidered.

I get asked so many questions about embroidery so I walked through the process and answered FAQ’s on Instagram. I saved the videos to my story highlights under “Embroidery” if you have any questions or you are interested in the process.

This particular first day of school design came from Apple Dumplin Design on Etsy and it turned out adorable!

I still can’t believe my first baby is starting his second year of preschool.

John Davis loves going to school which is such a blessing! He is smart as can be which means he likes to be challenged and gets bored easily.

I’m so grateful to see him learning and thriving at his sweet Christian school that teaches him about Jesus first and foremost. His teacher shared a of picture of him sitting in chapel with his hands together and his head down praying and it was about enough to make my mama heart explode.

Little brother wanted his own seat at the first day of school table, too ; )

And here is where I unashamedly share some obligatory first day of school pictures of my sweet big boy!

John Davis isn’t one to like getting his picture made (typical male) so a lot of our pictures looked like this. 🙂

Hubby said his feet look so big they look fake. Mother said they look like one of the Norman Rockwell prints. Hopefully he will grow into them : ) At his last well-check he was on track to be 6’3″ or 6’4″!

We still love his monogrammed seersucker backpack from MauriceMonograms. It held up so well last year that it still looks brand new this year!

I know I’m biased because I’m his mama, but he has the prettiest little face I’ve ever seen.

And this mama was able to sneak in a rare picture of the two of us!

Little brother didn’t want to be left out so he got in on the pictures too.

I love seeing how much they love each other.

I snapped this last picture of John Davis walking into school and I laugh every time I look at it. I never want to forget these sweet memories.
