Thanksgiving Turkey Cookies
John Davis had his first preschool Thanksgiving feast last week and I made these cute little Thanksgiving turkey cookies for the special occasion.
When I was assigned to bring dessert (woohoo!) I knew I wanted to do something fun that the children would enjoy.
These were quick and easy to put together, and my tiny kitchen “helper” enjoyed eating all of the supplies during the process.
You can get creative with these little turkeys and use any variety of cookies or candy. I ultimately decided on Golden Oreos for the body and candy corn for the feathers. (Finding candy corn after Halloween was no easy feat, but thankfully three stores later the Dollar Tree pulled through!) I created the face with Nutter Butter Bites, candy eyeballs (found in the baking section at the grocery store), and half of a Reese’s Pieces for the nose. I “glued” everything together with white icing.
I won’t even tell you how many Oreos were broken while making these (Pinterest fail!). Trying to stick candy corn in between Oreos without breaking them is not as easy as it sounds 😉 And while I had planned to put them on a lollipop stick with an orange ribbon (like the photos above), I quickly realized that wasn’t going to work and opted to display them on a serving tray instead.
They were a huge hit and I received so many compliments at the school Thanksgiving feast. The children loved them (the adults too!) and every single one of them was gobbled up!
I think they turned out adorable and John Davis and I had so much fun creating these turkey cookies together. They would make a great Thanksgiving craft for you and your little turkeys this holiday week. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
