Valentine’s Candy Cane Heart Lollipops
Valentine’s Candy Cane Heart Lollipops
Who doesn’t love the month of February? Valentine’s Day means love, sweet treats, and all things pink! Oh, and did I mention it also happens to be my birthday month? : )
Now that John Davis is in preschool we have a whole new excuse to take our holiday celebrations to the next level. I have so much fun getting crafty and creating a little something extra special for him to share with his classmates at their holiday class parties.
I had seen this idea for Valentine’s candy cane heart lollipops on Pinterest in the past. I noticed it and thought it was cute because John Davis loves any and all kinds of lollipops (which makes for good bribery 😉 ). After Christmas I came across miniature candy canes on clearance for fifty cents at our local grocery store. You better believe I grabbed a few boxes with these Valentine’s candy cane heart lollipops in mind!
What You Need
- Mini Candy Canes (2 per lollipop)
- Lollipop Sticks
- Almond Bark or White Chocolate – I used this almond bark
- Sprinkles
- Parchment Paper
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
2. On a parchment lined baking sheet, arrange two candy canes into the shape of a heart and place them so they are on top of a lollipop stick.
3. Bake for 3 to 4 minutes, keeping a watch on them (I completely melted my first batch!). You want them to be soft and bendable but not melted.
4. Remove from the oven and form hearts by pinching the ends together onto the lollipop stick.
It took me a little while to get the hang of it, but I learned that small batches work best. The candy canes don’t stay soft very long so you want to work fairly quickly. If you don’t like the way it looks or it hardens before you have shaped it, just stick it back in the oven for a few minutes until it is soft again. I reheated mine quite a few times! And mine were far from perfect ; )
5. While the formed candy canes cool, heat the almond bark in the microwave in 30 second intervals. Stir in between until the bark is completely melted and smooth.
6. Spoon the melted almond bark into the middle of each heart and top with sprinkles.
7. Let cool completely before serving (or stick them in the fridge to speed up your cooling time like I did!).
Once they are completely cooled they are ready to eat or to give as a cute little Valentine’s gift.
You can wrap them individually in a clear treat bag or bunch them together to form a bouquet of heart lollipops (which I think would make an adorable Valentine’s teacher gift!).
And of course you know I can’t go without adding a cute little Valentine’s heart ribbon as the finishing touch.
I am making a batch of these for John Davis to take to his class for their Valtentine’s Day party next week. I am going to wrap each one individually in a clear treat bag and use the red heart ribbon to tie on a Valentine’s printable which I will share here very soon 🙂
They turned out so cute and I think all of John Davis’s little friends at school will enjoy them!
