We Bought a Farm!
A Dream Fulfilled – We Bought a Farm!
We bought a farm!!! And if you can’t tell, we are all pretty thrilled about it : )
Typing those words still feels a little surreal.
But as of December 3rd, 2019, our family (Hubby and me + Mama and Daddy + Brother) are the proud new owners of Cedar Creek Farm!
Cedar Creek Farm: Our Family Compound
Owning enough land to build a “family compound” has been a big dream of ours for a long time.
We’ve dreamt of raising our children out in the country, away from the hustle and bustle, where they can grow up outdoors playing in God’s creation.
We’ve dreamt of a “family compound.”
We jokingly call it that, but I suppose that’s exactly what it is. Enough land where all of us (Hubby and me, Mama and Daddy, and Brother) can all have enough land to build our own homes (and perhaps one day our children will build their own homes)- and be close enough to each other, but still far enough apart 😉
We’ve dreamt of rolling acres, wide open spaces, white farmhouses with wrap around porches, and our own little self-sustaining farm, garden, and pond.
Today it still feels surreal to say that our big dream has become a reality!
Thankful. Grateful. Undeserving. A dream come true. That’s the best way I know how to describe it.
Getting to this point was not the easiest journey, and to be honest we had all but given up on our dream when Cedar Creek Farm came into our lives.
So how did we get here?
It’s been a long process with lots of ups and downs and disappointments and a few heart breaks along the way.
We have been looking for land for almost two years. Yes you read that right, two years!
We live in the fastest growing county in Georgia. The top rated schools, low taxes and close proximity to Atlanta make it a very desirable place to live and raise a family.
But that desirability and fast growth also means the housing market is extremely competitive. We knew that going into it but looking back we didn’t quite fully comprehend how competitive the market truly is.
Because of the fast growth in the county, there is not much land left to begin with. Large tracts of land are almost immediately bought up by developers. And any smaller tracts of land (those that still exist) are few and far between. Which means the sellers can name just about any price they wish.
When I say that we must have looked at at least 100 tracts of land I am not exaggerating! We spent so much time studying all the real estate listings, and our weekends were spent driving out to look at perspective properties in person. To be honest? Most of them were downright awful!
The more time that passed the more discouraged we became, and eventually started to think that it wasn’t meant to be.
And then Cedar Creek Farm came into our lives in an unexpected way, and looking back it is so clear that God orchestrated it just for us!
One day I will share all of the crazy twists and turns that led us to this particular property, but for now we are just over the moon excited for our little piece of heaven on earth.
Cedar Creek Farm is named for the cedar trees growing all over the property and the creek running though the back.
It totals 20 acres and has the most adorable little 1901 farmhouse on the property (that we cannot wait to restore!!!!). There is a spring head with a small creek running through the back of the property, and we cannot wait to use the spring head to create our own little spring-fed pond. There are blueberry bushes, fruit trees and a little garden that we cannot wait to expand.
What’s Next?
We can’t wait to bring you along as we turn Cedar Creek Farm into our very own family compound!
It needs a lot of work and we can’t wait to dig in and get started.
I will be documenting the entire process here as we renovate the 1901 farmhouse, sell our current house and build our forever home in 2020!
Feeling so very blessed and thankful for this little dream of ours fulfilled. We can’t wait to see what God has planned in the future at Cedar Creek Farm and our prayer is that God would ultimately use it all for His glory.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colassians 3:17
