Favorite Christmas Gifts for Children

Christmas gift guide for children

Christmas morning is all about the kiddos around here. Hubby and I usually exchange a small gift from each other, but our greatest gift is seeing the joy on our children’s faces come Christmas morning. There is truly nothing more magical!

After becoming a Mama I realized how quickly the toys can start to take over (thank you Grandmother & Granddaddy), so we try to be intentional about what toys we bring into the house. There is nothing worse than having tons of toys that your children outgrow in a few months or only keep their attention for all of 0.2 seconds.

I’ve rounded up some of our favorite things that make great gift ideas for children. These are things we personally love and that have stood the test of time by growing with us through multiple stages. Some are geared toward little boys (because that is all I know! #boymom), but most of these would make great gift ideas for the little girls too.

  1. Anywhere Chair – A must have for every little one! It’s both pretty and practical, and looks adorable in any room in your house (which means I don’t mind when it makes its way into the family room 🙂 ). It comes in so many different colors and of course I love that you can personalize it with a name or monogram. We gave this to John Davis for his very first Christmas when he was not even a year old. He loved it then and he still loves it now!
  2. Baylor Bow Tie – Every little Southern gentleman needs a bow tie! Hubby is notorious for wearing a bow tie and John Davis is following in his footsteps. Looks like we need to start Fletcher a bow tie collection of his own. I love this one because of the classic blue gingham print and the fact that you can add a monogram.
  3. 50 Things Every Young Gentleman Should Know – Another must have for the little Southern gentleman. Not only does it look adorable styled in a little boys room, but it is practical too! Chivalry is not dead and I hope to raise my boys to be true gentlemen just like their Daddy. This book is adorable and features sound advice about the manner in which a gentleman conducts himself in all walks of life.
  4. Thomas and Friends Starter Set – The perfect Thomas the Tank Engine starter set for little boys. Thomas is iconic and has been around for ages. Brother absolutely loved Thomas as a little boy. I love that the train sets come with adapters so you can connect to other systems and add on as your child grows. Mother recently bought a Thomas the Tank Engine table and John Davis will sit and play with his Thomas trains for hours!
  5. Little People Nativity – What better way to help teach your little one’s about the real meaning of Christmas than with this Little People nativity?
  6. Easel – I love toys that help foster creativity and learning. At just under $20 the price point on this easel can’t be beat. It has a chalkboard on one side, a whiteboard on the back, and you can add a roll of craft paper for drawing and painting. John Davis loves to draw with chalk and I’m certain this is one of the main reasons he knows all of his letters, shapes and numbers!
  7. Table and Chairs – We use our table and chairs every single day for eating, playing and crafting. We opted for this less expensive set of table and chairs and we couldn’t be more pleased! An added bonus is that it looks great with my neutral decor, which is good since it stays out in our kitchen : )
  8. Hot Wheels Mega Hauler – This is certainly a boy mom problem, but I find those little Hot Wheels cars everywhere. My wishful thinking is that John Davis will keep them stored nice and neatly in this mega hauler (yeah, right!).
  9. Play Kitchen – Perfect for little boys or little girls, I love that this kitchen is neutral and has a classic vintage look. John Davis loves to cook up imaginary treats and have me test them out.
  10. Precious Moments Bible – The sweetest and most special personalized keepsake Bible. I still have my personalized pink Bible that my Grandmother gave to me as little girl, and now John Davis and Fletcher both have a personalized baby blue one of their own.
  11. Play Workbench – I love all things Melissa & Doug. John Davis has hammered away on this work bench for more hours than I can count (future DIYer in the making). Not only does it help develop motor skills and imaginative play, as he gets older he can build and assemble a number of items with the tools and hardware included with the set.
  12. Personalized Stationery – See Genteman’s Guide and Bow Tie above 🙂 Every Gentleman should learn the art of writing a timely thank you note and this personalized bow tie stationary is just too cute for words.
  13. Puzzle Stool – This was given to us as a gift after Fletcher was born and now I just have to order John Davis one of his own. It is practical to help little one’s stand at the sink, and John Davis loves playing with it as a puzzle. It’s also great for helping children recognize and spell their own name. John Davis can already spell out the letters in Fletcher’s name in the correct order just from playing with this puzzle.
  14. Tablet – Ok, so before I had children I said my kids would never be allowed any screen time. HA! We all say funny things before we have kids of our own. While I don’t allow my kids to stare at a screen all day, there are certain times (long road trips, restaurants, grocery store) that I gladly welcome a little distraction to help keep us all sane.

What are some of your favorite children’s gifts that have stood the test of time?
