ORC Week 5: Finishing Touches
One Room Challenge Week Five
It’s week five of the One Room Challenge and hallelujah I can’t believe it will be over next week! In some ways the past five weeks have flown by, and in some ways it seems like we have been working on the laundry room forever. FOR-EH-VER, long and drawn out like in the movie The Sandlot. When we first started out Hubby said there was no way such a small room would take six weeks to complete. He’s eating his words now and I’m wishing we had just one more week. (Going out of town twice during a six week ORC really complicated things).
If you’re just now following along, the ORC is an online event where twenty designers and hundreds of guest participants completely transform a room in six weeks. Every Thursday guest participants link up to share their progress until the final room reveal on November 8th. Be sure to follow along on the blog every Thursday, and follow ORC, #oneroomchallenge and #BHGORC on Instagram so you don’t miss a thing!
Catch Up
Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4
I’m going to keep it short and sweet this week because it’s week five and this mama is tired. I also can’t share too much of the space without ruining the final reveal next week. So you’re just going to have to live in suspense until next week when I share the entire transformed space ; )
Finishing Touches
This week was all about the finishing touches. It was nice to have the large items out of the way and have a chance to focus on some of the fun design elements. I’ve ordered the majority of my items from Amazon (because who can really leave the house with a toddler and a baby?!), which means Hubby always looks somewhat concerned when he comes home from work to find our front porch full of Amazon boxes. I also recently learned that his email address is attached to our Prime account so he gets an email notification every time I order something from Amazon. Yikes.
You Guessed It… More DIY Projects
If you remember back to Week 1, one of my goals for the space was to incorporate hanging laundry hampers. Hanging laundry bags would maximize every square inch of this small space and get the laundry baskets up off the floor. I used this Pottery Barn hanging hamper system as inspiration and decided to create my own DIY version.
It was an easy and inexpensive project and I love the way it turned out!
We also created a DIY industrial style hanging rod between the two cabinets, installed matte black pulls on the cabinet doors, and installed a new light fixture.
Punch List
Really all of the items on our to-list have been crossed off. I guess I should have included a bullet point for “touch up.” We are currently finishing up the last little details like touching up the wall paint, cleaning, and getting the room put back together.
