ORC Week 6: Laundry Room Final Reveal
One Room Challenge Week Six: Laundry Room Final Reveal!
I cannot believe it is the sixth and final week of the One Room Challenge! This laundry room has certainly been a labor of love. While I absolutely love the end results, there were days I was ready to throw in the towel and call it quits. Looking back, perhaps trying to complete an entire room in six weeks at this time in our lives was not the wisest idea. But we did it and now we have a brand new, beautiful laundry room to show for it! And who knows, maybe I will be more motivated to fold laundry in this pretty space (wishful thinking).
Call me cheesy, but working together with Hubby on a project like this makes me proud of what we can accomplish together. Sure, we may have lost some sleep and gotten in a few disagreements along the way ; ) (Did he really think I wasn’t going to use the tile saw while he was at work?) DIY home projects can seem not so fun in the moment. But just like when we renovated our first foreclosure fixer upper, I’m reminded of why we keep coming back for more.
We’ve learned that home doesn’t happen overnight, and that you don’t need a huge budget or an extensive skill set to create a home you love. If you’re willing to invest the time and the work, you can make it happen. I think you’re more appreciative of something you’ve worked hard for, and we truly enjoy turning our house into a home for our little family.
Before + After
I can’t help but take one last look at this before and after. What is it about a good before and after that makes me so happy?!
Looking back it’s still hard to believe this is the same room. I can’t get over the dramatic improvement in just six short weeks. Before this laundry room was dark and disorganized. Now it is bright, beautiful, and functional. It makes my eyes happy every single time I walk by : )

If you’re just now following along, the ORC is an online event where twenty designers and hundreds of guest participants completely transform a room in six weeks. Guest participants have been linking up every Thursday over the past six weeks to share their progress leading up to the final room reveals. Be sure to check out all of the incredible final reveals happening today over on the ORC blog. You can also follow ORC, #oneroomchallenge and #BHGORC on Instagram so you don’t miss a thing!
Looking back I stayed pretty true to the overall look of the original design plan. I’ve included links to all of the specific items I used in the laundry room at the end of this post.
Modern Farmhouse Laundry Room Final Reveal
Like I said above this room was certainly a labor of love. Almost everything you see in the room was a DIY project specifically designed to utilize every square inch of this small laundry room to make it functional for our family.
The DIY wood countertop really defines the space and gives function to the previously wasted space above the washer and dryer. No more looking for lost socks that have fallen behind the dryer where I can’t reach them! We now have a functioning, spacious area to fold and sort laundry. That’s what mom dreams are made of.
I wasn’t expecting it, but I think the subway tile wall makes one of the biggest statements of all. I had no idea how much it would define the space and make the room feel lighter, brighter, and bigger! Choosing gray grout was definitely a step out of my comfort zone (I choose white time and time again), but I’m so glad I did! The laundry room was a chance to have a little more design fun and I love the contrast of the dark gray against the white.
The white shaker style cabinets add useable storage and hold all of the laundry products that were previously stacked on top of the washer and dryer or sitting on the floor.
I’m also a sucker for a classic black and white palette, and the new pendant light is no exception. At just $31 it was a steal and I was happy to say goodbye to the old builder-grade boob light.
The DIY floating shelf anchors the two cabinets and holds some cute accessories like these glass jars filled with wood clothespins and laundry detergent.
I printed this adorable Laundry Guide printable from Etsy and housed it in a simple matted black frame I picked up from HomeGoods. The faux greenery is from HomeGoods as well.
We created our own DIY industrial style hanging rod for under $15 by using a wooden dowel, black spray paint, and two black iron floor flanges. It provides usable hanging space (I air dry a lot of our clothes) and houses these cute wood hangers.
If you remember the laundry room before, this wall was previously wasted space and we had little to no room to sort laundry.
I created DIY hanging laundry bags to utilize every square inch of the small room and provide cute hanging storage that doesn’t take up any space. I used these blank canvas bags and added the “Lights” and “Darks” with our Brother embroidery machine. The large metal decorative safety pin was a gift from my Aunt and Uncle (who own the cutest antique booths in Alabama!) but here is a similar option.
I used these matte black grommets and hung them on these inexpensive black metal wall hooks from Hobby Lobby.
This Light and Dark sorting system seems simple enough even for Husbands to figure out ; ) (And that’s a joke because Hubby is super Dad and the majority of the time he is way more on top of the laundry than me!)

That’s a Wrap!
We’re calling this one officially done! We’re going to sit back and enjoy this one for awhile and then maybe, just maybe, we’ll be back for ORC Spring 2019 ; ) Thanks for following along!
